Lip Enhancement in Our Melbourne Clinic

Lips are a central component of our appearance and expression. However, as we age, our lips often become thinner and less prominent. The amount of vermilion show (the red part of the lip) also tends to diminish with age. At Avenue Plastic Surgery and Avenue Advanced Skin Care, we work together to ensure our patients achieve a natural-looking enhancement that complements individual facial features. Mr. Kalus, our lip enhancement Melbourne specialist, believes that good judgement is the key and will ensure your lips retain their natural look.

Lip Augmentation can:

  • Restore fullness
  • Enhance contours of the lips
  • Correct asymmetry of the lips
  • Correct a “gummy” smile
  • Reduce the appearance of “smoker’s” lip lines

We offer several world-class techniques to enhance lip fullness and restore your youthful pout.

Autologous Fat Transfer

Mr Allan Kalus is a specialist in performing Fat Transfer procedures for the face, lips and breasts. His impeccable aesthetic judgement ensures that patients receive a natural and satisfying result.

What is autologous fat transfer?

Autologous fat transfer involves taking some fat (usually from the abdomen or thighs) and, after preparation, injecting it carefully directly under the vermilion of the lips. This fat is then massaged and moulded so that a smooth and uniform lip augmentation is produced.

Is autologous fat transfer painful? The Fat Transfer procedure is performed under local anaesthetic to minimise your discomfort. How much fat is used for the procedure? Usually about 2 mls of your own fat is injected into both the upper and lower lips.  Of course, if larger lips are desired, then more fat can be injected. Will my lips be swollen afterwards? The lips are swollen for the first week, but once the swelling subsides this volume produces a natural fullness of the lips without excessive prominence.

How long will the results last? The fat survives permanently in the lips and most patients are highly satisfied with the results obtained. The fat is injected into multiple tunnels to give the cells maximum chance of survival. What scarring is produced? There is no scarring produced on the lips as the fat is transferred by a small cannula or syringe.  On the donor area (such as the thighs or abdomen), a small scar (usually less than 1 cm) is all that is required to facilitate harvesting the fat.

Dermal Filler Injections

Under the guidance of Mr Allan Kalus, a highly skilled and experienced plastic surgeon in Melbourne, our team of nurse injectors are trained in the art facial aesthetics and symmetry. This enables them to deliver lip filler injections that meet the unique desires of their individual patients

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are made from a clear gel composed of a substance that is naturally found in skin, called hyaluronic acid. The main differences between the types of fillers are the thickness, viscosity, and longevity. Dermal filler injections restore the skin’s natural support structures that have been damaged by aging. Dermal fillers provide an instant, noticeable and long-lasting result.

A non-biased treatment approach

Jane is our experienced surgical nurse and injector. She will provide you with a non-biased treatment approach, as we stock a full range of injectable options from Allergan, Galderma and Teoysal. As part of Jane’s approach to maximising results for all of her patients, she may also recommend supporting the health of the skin with cosmeceutical products or skin treatments. Our knowledgeable team of Dermal Clinicians can assist you further in your skin journey.

Does dermal filler lip augmentation hurt? This is a common concern for those who have never had a lip procedure done before. Jane will apply a topical anaesthetic to the lips so the procedure is comfortable. Furthermore, many of the dermal fillers available at Avenue Advanced Skin Care have local anaesthetic incorporated into the product, which means that they will provide additional numbness as the product is injected. Can I avoid bruising from dermal filler injections? The best way to avoid any bruising is to limit the intake of any blood thinning medications (such as aspirin, or any type of anti-inflammatories) as well as over-the-counter blood thinners (like fish oils) in the week prior to your treatment.

Will my lips be swollen afterwards? Yes. Your lips will be slightly numb and swollen immediately after your treatment. Swelling usually subsides after a few days. What do I need to do after injectable lip augmentation? Swelling will occur immediately after your treatment, so it is recommended you apply ice packs for at least 10-15 minutes after your treatment. Not drinking too much water for the first 24 hours after your treatment may also help to reduce swelling, as well as sleeping with your head slightly elevated the night after your treatment. You may need to use a lip balm to help prevent dry lips initially, and no make-up is to be used for 12 hours afterwards. It is best to avoid strenuous exercise and excessive UV exposure for at least 48 hours post treatment.
