Avenue Aesthetic Surgery is here to help you make the informed choice

What you need to know about Rhinoplasty

Your nose is one of the more prominent features on your face; it provides the focal point around which the rest of your facial features are built. At Avenue Aesthetic Surgery, we understand that the decision to undergo rhinoplasty can often be an emotional one. But it’s not uncommon for both men and women to desire a change in the size or shape of their nose.

OUR APPROACH TO YOUR Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty is not only about making the nose smaller, but also involves restoring the delicate balance that exists between the nose and the other facial features. Our approach to nose reshaping aligns your nose with the rest of your face to achieve a natural-looking result.

Recovery typically involves wearing a splint on the nose for approximately 1 week. We recommend no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for approximately 4 weeks following surgery. Most of our patients return to relatively normal activity and sedentary work after 1 week.

All surgery carries risks which are important to understand so that you make a well-informed decision. Complications associated with rhinoplasty include bleeding, infection, skin numbness, difficulty breathing, nasal septal perforation (hole in nasal septum), poor scarring, deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the legs) and anesthetic complications.

This listing is not all-inclusive and patients may be at risk for additional complications depending on their past medical and surgical history. A thorough discussion will occur during consultation with your surgeon including ways to mitigate risks prior to surgery and steps taken to treat complications should they occur.

Closed Rhinoplasty

We advocate closed rhinoplasty where the entire nose reshaping procedure is done from incisions made inside the nose. As a result, there are no visible scars.

Our method of nose reshaping also enables us to avoid the use of nasal packs.

Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty results in a visible scar at the base of the nose as well as more prolonged swelling of the nasal tip following surgery. It is our opinion that open rhinoplasty should be reserved for cases with specific issues of the nasal tip that cannot be corrected using our closed method.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Patients often ask: ‘What happens if I am not happy with the result?’ In capable hands, complications are unlikely following rhinoplasty surgery. However, because the nose is highly visible in the centre of the face, a patient may desire even the slightest asymmetry or unevenness to be revised. Rhinoplasty for Two Generations

It is a rare privilege for a plastic surgeon to help 2 generations of the same family! We were thrilled when we recently received this photograph of mother and daughter proudly displaying their ‘perfect noses’ during their daughter’s wedding. Dr Kalus was the fortunate surgeon who had the privilege to operate on both mother and daughter and provide them both with the added self-assurance and confidence that rhinoplasty can bring.
