Corona Virus has finally reached Australia and the number of cases is likely to rise rapidly over the next few weeks. How do we protect ourselves and our families?
- Social distancing
This refers to staying at least 1.5 meters away from other people, not shaking hands, washing hands regularly and being aware of the contamination of surfaces such as door handles and lift buttons. In situations such consultations or at the hairdresser, which involves more than 15 minutes of face to face contact, wear a facemask
- Wash your hands with soap and water. Carry a hand sanitiser and use it regularly.
- Be aware that the corona virus can survive for up to 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel surfaces
- Boost your immune system and response to the Corona virus
We know that we can boost our immune system by taking high dose vitamin C and high dose vitamin D. In addition (and here I am going to get a little technical), laboratory research has shown that zinc will destroy the Corona virus. Taking zinc supplements is not enough however as the zinc has to pass through the cell membrane. Interestingly, flavonoids have been shown to facilitate zinc transfer through the cell membrane. Flavonoids are present in green tea but possibly the best way to take a higher dose of flavonoid is by taking Quercetain tablets (manufactured by Bioceuticals). In fact Quercetain and zinc have been trialled as a possible cure for Corona virus so one would expect that they would also work for its prevention.
At Avenue Plastic Surgery we have worked together with our compounding pharmacist to make a mixture which contains Zinc, high dose vitamin C, high dose vitamin D, ginger, and Echinacea. The dosage is 10 ml twice a day and this is a lot more convenient than taking multiple tablets and capsules.
So, what all our staff are taking and what we are providing for our families is:-
Immune booster 10 ml twice daily
Quercetin 1 tablet twice daily.
These products are available online via Avenue Advanced Skin Care’s Skin Store.
- Curing COVID-19 Infections
If you are unfortunate enough, despite all precautions to become ill with a COVID-19 infection, there is an encouraging preliminary report from Infectious Disease Physcians in France where using a combination of HydroxyChloroquine and azithromycin (with daily ECG monitoring of QT interval) resulted in a 100% cure rate.
The question remains whether hydroxychloroquine can be used to prevent the disease in susceptible individuals.
